24-Hour Global Push Demands Faster Action on Clean Energy Access

A 24-hour global campaign for clean energy took place on the International Day of Clean Energy. Organised by Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), the initiative aimed to push for faster progress on sustainable energy access. Events stretched across two continents, with a focus on clean cooking and electricity financing solutions.

SEforALL, recognised by the United Nations as a leader for the Day, launched the '24 Hours for Clean Energy' digital campaign. The effort called for worldwide support in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which targets affordable and clean energy for all.

In Lagos, Nigeria, SEforALL hosted a Clean Cooking Experience to speed up the country's shift away from polluting fuels. Over 2.1 billion people still cook with harmful fuels, causing air pollution, deforestation, and climate damage. The event highlighted the urgent need for cleaner alternatives. Meanwhile, in Vienna, Austria, a high-level gathering focused on clean cooking in schools. Experts discussed how safer cooking methods could improve children's health and education globally. The campaign also marked the fifth anniversary of the Universal Energy Facility (UEF). SEforALL announced a new funding initiative for Sierra Leone, backed by the EU and the Danish Government. The programme aims to expand electricity access in a region where unreliable power limits economic growth and essential services. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and beyond, the campaign pushed for stronger policies and financing to close energy gaps. No other organisations were named as collaborators in the three main events.

The 24-hour push for clean energy drew attention to ongoing challenges in cooking and electricity access. With new financing models and advocacy efforts, SEforALL continues to drive action toward SDG7. The campaign's outcomes will depend on sustained support from governments and global partners.
