Deutsche Bahn reports record Easter travel despite Rhine rail disruptions
Deutsche Bahn saw a significant rise in long-distance travel over the Easter holidays. Roughly two million passengers used its trains during this period. The surge came despite ongoing construction work on the Rhine Valley Railway. The busiest days were Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Monday. On Easter Monday alone, long-distance services carried 400,000 passengers. High fuel prices and special ticket promotions helped drive the demand.
The most popular routes included connections between Berlin and Munich or Nuremberg. Services to Leipzig, Dresden, and Erfurt were also heavily used. Construction on the Rhine Valley Railway caused some disruption, but comprehensive replacement bus services kept delays to a minimum.
Throughout the holiday, long-distance trains maintained punctuality rates above 70 percent. The measures ensured operations ran smoothly despite the high passenger numbers. The Easter period proved a test of capacity and planning. Deutsche Bahn handled the increased demand while keeping most services on schedule. Construction work and replacement buses played a key role in minimising delays for travellers.
