Kuban's fuel prices spike amid import reliance and inflation pressures
Fuel prices in Kuban have surged recently due to several economic pressures. Experts compare the situation to past panic buying of buckwheat, calling it artificially driven. Economists now predict a stabilisation in the market soon. In 2025, Kuban relied heavily on fuel imports from other Russian regions. Moscow supplied the largest share at 35.7%. Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Smolensk Oblast, and Belgorod Oblast each contributed 7%. The remaining 8.3% came from Rostov Oblast.
Since early 2026, businesses in Kuban have sourced 60% of their fuel from outside the region. Diesel purchases rose by 13.7% because of inflation, logistical issues, and refinery disruptions. Gasoline procurement also increased by 7.2% for the same reasons. The current spike in demand mirrors previous shortages driven by public behaviour. With these pressures easing, economists expect the fuel market in Kuban to stabilise in the near future. The region’s reliance on external suppliers remains a key factor in its fuel security.
