Third Round of Mosquito Disinsection Launched in Astana

Astana's Bold Plan to Slash Mosquito Populations by 90% This Season

Astana has launched an extensive mosquito control campaign to tackle rising insect numbers. The city aims to cut populations by up to 90% through a structured, multi-phase operation. Teams are working in shifts to cover large areas efficiently. The campaign runs in six phases, with nightly operations between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM. Each month, treatments last for 20 days, allowing thorough coverage. Since the start of the season, over 26,000 hectares have already been treated.

More than 150 trained specialists are involved in the effort. They use a range of equipment, including mechanical rotary sprayers, drones, and a boat. The work is divided into two shifts to maintain round-the-clock progress.

Authorities have advised residents to stay away from treated zones during spraying. Keeping windows closed is also recommended to avoid exposure. The operation combines ground, air, and water-based methods to maximise effectiveness. With the campaign underway, the city expects a significant drop in mosquito activity. Residents are urged to follow safety guidelines to support the effort.
