Meta Opens 2026 RFP to Cut Value Chain Emissions Across Heavy Industry, Transport

Meta launches bold RFP to slash emissions in hard-to-decarbonise industries by 2030

Meta has set a bold target to reach net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2030. The company has now opened a request for proposals to find and scale solutions that can cut emissions in hard-to-decarbonise sectors. This move marks a shift from reporting climate goals to actively driving commercial change through procurement. The RFP focuses on industries with high emissions and limited low-carbon alternatives. These include air transport, aluminium, cement, chemicals, copper, fluorinated gases, maritime shipping, semiconductors, steel, and trucking. Meta aims to use its buying power to boost demand for cleaner materials and industrial processes.

The timeline for the RFP is tight. Firms must submit responses by 12:00pm PT on September 4, 2026. Meta will then review proposals from September to November 2026, with plans to contact shortlisted companies in November. The final deadline for signing the mutual NDA and distributing the RFP is July 17, 2026, at 12:00pm PT.

This initiative creates a clear process for assessing projects and partnerships to reduce Scope 3 emissions. These emissions, often the largest part of a company’s climate footprint, are the hardest to control. For investors, the RFP highlights where corporate climate funding may next be directed, such as heavy industry, transport fuels, and semiconductor production. Meta’s 2030 net zero goal leaves little time to develop and scale effective interventions. The RFP provides a structured way to identify and support the most promising solutions. Success could accelerate decarbonisation in sectors where progress has so far been slow.
