Yakutsk's Top Bus Drivers Compete for Prestige and Cash Prizes
Yakutsk has launched a competition to find the 'Best Bus Driver of Yakutsk' and the 'Best Urban Passenger Route'. The event takes place ahead of Public Transport Workers' Day. Ten drivers are vying for the top title, with cash prizes awarded by the city's mayor. The contest tests drivers on three key areas: knowledge of traffic rules, practical driving skills, and the technical condition of their vehicles. Each participant completed a 20-question exam based on Russian Traffic Police materials, with response times factored into their scores. They also navigated a special obstacle course to demonstrate manoeuvring skills, with performance times recorded.
Judges inspected the buses of all contestants, assessing 36 criteria. These included cleanliness, safety equipment, and overall passenger comfort. Eduard Sadovnikov, head of the 'Passenger Transport Organizer', stated the competition aims to raise the prestige of public transport driving in the region.
The 'Best Urban Passenger Route 2023' will be determined by passenger feedback, incident history, and adherence to schedules. Winners in both categories will receive cash prizes from Yakutsk Mayor Yevgeny Grigoryev. The competition highlights the skills and dedication of Yakutsk’s bus drivers. It also encourages higher standards in public transport service. The winners will be announced following the final evaluations.
