Astana transforms with new parks, bike lanes and green corridors in 2023
Astana is upgrading multiple public spaces and roads this year. Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek announced the plans on his Instagram page on 19 June 2023. The projects aim to improve infrastructure and create modern recreational areas across the capital. A new landscaped park is being developed between Bauyrzhan Momyshuly Prospect and Kanysh Satpayev Street. It will include pedestrian zones, greenery, modern lighting, and a 'Dragon' playground for children. The park forms part of a broader effort to enhance urban spaces in Astana.
Reconstruction work is also underway on Bauyrzhan Momyshuly Prospect. The upgrades feature a 'green corridor' with 915 trees and an automated irrigation system. Additionally, a bike lane, widened sidewalks, and a modern pedestrian promenade are being added.
Improvements are continuing on Ryskulbek Kosharbayev Prospect. The stretch from Kanybek Amanzholov Street to Kordai Street and Sagyn Nurmagambetov Street is being upgraded. An extra exit onto the prospect is under construction to ease congestion and improve traffic flow.
A 2.5-kilometre section along the Yesil and Yesenbay rivers will become a modern public space. Some projects have already finished, while others remain in progress across all city districts. In total, 173 public and courtyard areas in Astana will receive upgrades in 2023. The upgrades will introduce new green spaces, better transport links, and improved amenities for residents. The city expects the projects to enhance daily life and accessibility. Work is set to continue throughout the year.
