B 444 near Edemissen to be fully closed from August

Major B 444 bridge replacement begins with full road closure next week

The Lower Saxony State Road and Transport Authority will replace the bridge over the Schwarzwasser on the B 444 federal highway south of Edemissen. The project involves demolishing the existing road bridge and constructing a new one with space for both vehicles and a dedicated cycle path. Work on the new bridge will begin on Tuesday, August 4. From Monday, August 3, the B 444 will be fully closed to vehicular traffic. During construction, traffic will be diverted in one direction via Stederdorf, Wendesse, and Oedesse, with the reverse route for the opposite flow.

The current pedestrian and cycle bridge will stay in place throughout the construction period. Once the new road bridge is finished, the old pedestrian and cycle bridge will be removed. The authority has requested patience from the public due to the unavoidable disruptions. The entire project is set to finish by March 2027. Until then, drivers and cyclists will need to follow the temporary routes. The new bridge will improve infrastructure by combining road and cycle paths into one structure.
