Claude Tag turns Slack into a shared AI workspace for teams
Anthropic has launched Claude Tag, a new tool that places Claude directly into Slack as a shared team member. The product replaces the company’s earlier Claude in Slack app and is now available in beta for Enterprise and Team plan users. It allows teams to interact with Claude as a persistent presence in their workspace. Anthropic first introduced its Claude in Slack app in October 2025. This initial version let users call on Claude for help when needed. In December, the company added Claude Code to Slack, giving developers the ability to tag Claude for coding tasks.
Claude Tag builds on these features by giving Claude its own identity within the workspace. Each channel has one shared Claude that all team members can use. This means conversations and tasks started by one person can be picked up by others, creating continuity.
The new system also accumulates knowledge over time and can work without constant prompts. With ambient mode enabled, Claude monitors discussions, highlights key details, and follows up on inactive threads. Competitors like GitHub and OpenAI have introduced similar integrations, with Copilot in Microsoft Teams and Codex offering native Slack support for task delegation. Claude Tag is currently in beta for paying customers. It offers teams a way to embed Claude as a long-term, collaborative member of their Slack channels. The tool aims to streamline workflows by retaining context and acting autonomously when required.
