Yakutsk's major road upgrades bring delays but promise long-term relief
Large-scale road construction is underway in Yakutsk as part of the national 'Infrastructure for Life' project. The work includes major upgrades to key streets and intersections, with some closures causing temporary delays for residents. The intersection of Khabarov, Yaroslavsky, and Yefimov Streets is being transformed from a T-shaped junction to an offset X-shaped design. JSC 'RIK Avtodor' is handling the project on Yefimov Street, which also involves installing stormwater drainage channels. Asphalt paving and the intersection reconstruction are expected to finish by September 1, 2026.
Oyunsky Street is undergoing a full reconstruction from Kalandarishvili Street to Petrovsky Street, with completion set for 2027. ZAO 'Roads of Sakha' is the contractor for this work. During construction, outdated Soviet-era water pipes were uncovered and replaced. The subgrade preparation phase is currently in progress, and the street remains closed for the duration of the overhaul. The Yakutsk City Administration has acknowledged the disruption caused by road closures and peak-hour congestion. Residents can expect improved infrastructure once the projects on Yefimov and Oyunsky Streets are completed. Work continues as part of the broader national initiative to modernise road networks.
