Sharjah unveils Dh750m road projects to boost Dubai connectivity
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has announced a Dh750 million road development plan. The projects will improve connections between Sharjah and Dubai while preserving local landmarks. Key routes and infrastructure upgrades are part of the initiative. The announcement covers several major schemes. Engineers discovered that the Al Taawun Roundabout Monument’s foundations conflict with a proposed tunnel route. As a result, the monument will be temporarily removed and reinstated once construction finishes.
The tunnel project aims to smooth traffic flow between the two emirates and reduce congestion at the Al Taawun Roundabout. It will also open new transport corridors, offering direct access to Expo Centre Sharjah. Additionally, Noor Road, stretching from Al Orooba Street towards Dubai, is set to open by the end of this year.
Sheikh Sultan emphasised the projects’ role in fostering openness and welcoming visitors. He stated that Sharjah embraces its neighbours and expects the investment to deliver wide-ranging benefits. The total cost of the developments stands at Dh750 million. The schemes are designed to enhance travel between Sharjah and Dubai and preserve valued landmarks. Completion of the works will mark a significant upgrade for regional connectivity.
