Shakarim University is becoming a major force in regional development in Kazakhstan. Its work spans science, agriculture, and engineering, with a focus on solving practical challenges in Abai Region. The institution is helping drive progress in fields critical to the country’s future. The university’s Engineering Center is improving methods to repair and reinforce industrial equipment. These advancements extend the lifespan of expensive machinery and mechanisms. Meanwhile, the Kazakhstan-China Joint Laboratory for Electrification and Automation is under development. It will train specialists, conduct applied research, and create industry-specific solutions for energy and high-tech manufacturing.
At the Agrobiolaboratory, researchers are studying how foreign-bred seeds adapt to arid climates. They are also exploring ways to increase agricultural productivity, with support from China’s Xi’an HETU. The university collaborates with local districts to tackle real-world issues, such as digitising rural areas and improving farming efficiency.
Shakarim Lab’s efforts align with broader regional priorities. Abai Region is Kazakhstan’s largest agricultural hub and a key player in radioecology, environmental safety, and nuclear technologies. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s policies are enabling universities to take a more active role in regional growth. In Abai Region, science and technology councils have been set up, and a Comprehensive Science Development Plan is being drafted with input from young researchers.
The university has boosted its scientific work through government support, modern infrastructure, and strong talent. Science funding has increased by 1.4 times in 2025. It is also building digital platforms like AgroHub.shakarim.kz and AgroW-space.com to connect government, agribusiness, and research in one ecosystem. Shakarim University’s initiatives are strengthening agriculture, engineering, and science in the region. Its projects address practical needs while supporting national priorities. The institution’s growing role reflects Kazakhstan’s broader push to advance higher education and technology.
