Kazakhstan's trade surges in early 2026 with record wholesale growth

Kazakhstan’s internal trade grew steadily in the first five months of 2026. Retail and wholesale sectors both saw notable increases, with wholesale trade reaching 19.6 trillion tenge. The overall trade performance also reflected a rise in the physical volume index for the sector. Retail trade volumes climbed to 9 trillion tenge, up by 3.6% in comparable prices. Wholesale trade performed even better, surging by 6.5% year-on-year to 19.6 trillion tenge. The physical volume index for the trade sector stood at 105.6%, indicating broader growth across the industry.

Among the regions, Almaty dominated with a 34.5% share of the national trade turnover. Astana followed with 13.9%, while Atyrau Region contributed 11.5%. Karaganda Region accounted for 6.1%, and Shymkent held a 5% share. The data confirms a positive trend in Kazakhstan’s trade for early 2026. Retail and wholesale figures rose, and key regions maintained strong contributions to the national total. The sector’s physical volume index also reinforced the upward movement.
