Berlin's BVG fights summer heat with cooler trains and staff support

Berlin’s public transport operator BVG is taking steps to improve comfort for both staff and passengers during warm weather. Extra measures are in place to keep drivers cool and reduce overcrowding on underground trains this weekend. BVG will operate underground trains with the maximum number of carriages during evening hours. This move aims to give passengers more room to sit and stand without overcrowding.

To support staff, the company is providing cooling towels to help them stay refreshed. Tram drivers will also have small coolers in their vehicles to keep drinks chilled throughout their shifts.

Additional support includes supplying drinking water at terminal stations, depots, and workshops. Employees will also be stationed at key transit hubs to hand out extra water to drivers as needed. The measures are designed to ease conditions for both staff and passengers. Cooler working environments and better spacing on trains should make travel more comfortable during the warmer period.
