Almaty tests one-way traffic to cut congestion in key districts
A new one-way traffic system has been introduced in parts of Almaty. The changes affect Dostyk Avenue in the Medeu District and Atameken Street in the Auezov District. The trial measure aims to ease congestion and improve road safety. On Dostyk Avenue, traffic will now flow northbound between Gogol Street and Zhibek Zholy Avenue. Zenkov Street will also see changes, with vehicles moving southbound from Makataev Street to Gogol Street.
Atameken Street will operate as a one-way route, running southbound from Building No. 103 to Building No. 108. The adjustments are designed to increase road capacity and reduce conflicts between drivers. Officials will review the system’s effectiveness before deciding on permanent implementation. The trial one-way system is now in place on the specified streets. Its success will determine whether the changes become permanent. The goal is to create smoother traffic flow and fewer disruptions for drivers.
