NLEX Ramps Up Safety, Maintenance Efforts for Rainy Season

NLEX ramps up rainy season prep to safeguard motorists and expressways

NLEX Corporation has intensified its preparations for the rainy season to ensure motorist safety. The company has taken steps to maintain smooth operations on its expressway network during severe weather. These measures aim to minimise disruptions and enhance response times in emergencies. From January to May, NLEX teams worked to clear garbage and silt from narrow, hard-to-reach waterways in densely populated areas. This effort included cleaning key rivers and creeks in Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Manila to lower flood risks. President and GM Luis S. Reñon stated that these actions help prevent overflows from reaching the expressway.

The company has also installed additional early-warning cameras at critical creeks crossing the expressway. These cameras allow real-time monitoring of water levels. To further strengthen its response, NLEX has pre-positioned emergency equipment such as portable flood barriers and rescue boats for immediate deployments.

Roadside drainage has been enhanced, and tree-trimming activities have reduced the risk of falling branches during strong winds. Maintenance teams have also undertaken pavement repairs and asphalt overlay projects across the NLEX and SCTEX network. Tollway drainage systems have been cleared, with pumps and detention tanks prepared for heavy rains.

NLEX coordinates closely with national government agencies and local authorities. This collaboration ensures a swift and effective response to severe weather disruptions. The preparations include improved drainage, monitoring systems, and emergency equipment. These steps are designed to keep the expressway safe and operational during heavy rainfall. Motorists can expect reduced risks and quicker recovery from weather-related incidents.
