Renovation of Ehrenbreitstein Station Causes Traffic Restrictions in Surrounding Area

Deutsche Bahn's Rhine rail upgrades to disrupt travel until December

Deutsche Bahn will carry out major renovation work on the right bank of the Rhine between Troisdorf and Wiesbaden. The project includes modernising 36 stations, with significant changes coming to Ehrenbreitstein station in Koblenz. Road and transport disruptions will begin before the full railway closure on July 10. From June 29, the right lane of Federal Highway B42 will close near Ehrenbreitstein station for drivers coming from Vallendar. For those arriving from Lahnstein, a temporary lane shift and narrowing will be in place, with one left-turn lane available from Charlottenstraße toward Lahnstein.

The bus stop 'Ehrenbreitstein Bahnhof Steig A' will also be suspended from June 29 until December. Construction sites and equipment will occupy nearby areas, causing further restrictions on surrounding roads.

Ehrenbreitstein station will stay open for foot and bike traffic until July 10. After this date, a full closure begins, and a pedestrian and cyclist detour via Hofstraße will be active. The work, running until December 12, involves renewing tracks, switches, and signals along the route. The project will modernise key infrastructure and improve station facilities. Drivers, pedestrians, and public transport users will face temporary changes to their usual routes. Work is scheduled to finish by mid-December.
