Gen Z investors prioritize bonds and AI tools in their portfolios

A new analysis by VTB My Investments has examined the investment habits of nearly 1 million clients under 30. The study reveals how Gen Z allocates their portfolios across different asset classes. Their average portfolio size currently stands at 279,000 rubles. Bonds form the largest portion of Gen Z portfolios, accounting for nearly half at 46%. Mutual fund shares follow, making up 30% of their investments. Money market exchange-traded funds also play a significant role, representing 22% of their holdings.

Stocks contribute 18% to their portfolios, while cash and precious metals together account for 6%. This distribution suggests a preference for balanced portfolios with a strong focus on defensive assets.

The study also highlights a growing trend in the use of technology. Over 7% of all clients now rely on AI-powered investment advisory tools, with this number rising among younger investors. Gen Z investors, in particular, show strong trust in tech-driven solutions for managing their investments. The data shows that Gen Z investors prioritise stability with a high allocation to bonds and money market funds. Their reliance on digital tools, including AI advisors, is also increasing. These trends reflect their approach to building and managing wealth in a changing financial landscape.
