A developer has created an open-source clone of World of Warcraft called World of Claudecraft. The game was built in just two days using Anthropic’s AI model, Claude Fable 5, and is now available to play for free in browsers or through self-hosting. The creator has invited others to contribute improvements via pull requests. The project, named World of Claudecraft, was developed by a self-described 'vibe coder'. It consumed 91% of the developer’s monthly $200 allowance under Anthropic’s Max-20x subscription plan. Despite its rapid creation, the game includes nine classes, three zones, and an AI-generated story with 90 objectives. Players can also attempt 10-player raids after finishing the main questline.
The game is free to play online or offline in a browser, or it can be self-hosted. However, some players have reported performance issues. Other developers have criticised the quality of its open-source code. Visually, World of Claudecraft lacks the polish of World of Warcraft and other major MMORPGs, which receive regular updates from large development teams and attract millions of players each month. The creator has opened the project to community contributions to refine the code. While World of Claudecraft offers a playable experience, its technical and visual limitations are evident. It remains a notable experiment in AI-assisted game development.
