Rhön's rural future takes shape in upcoming community research forums

Researchers from the Universities of Göttingen and Kassel have been studying changes in rural life across the Rhön region. Dr. Gonzalo Cortés-Capano and Roman Hinz led the project, speaking with farmers, conservationists, business owners, officials, and residents to gather insights. They now plan to share their early findings with the community. Three public events will take place in late June and early July 2026. The first is on Monday, June 29, at the Bavarian Administrative Office in Oberelsbach. The second follows on Tuesday, June 30, at the Thuringian Administrative Office – Propstei Zella in Dermbach. The final event is on Wednesday, July 1, at the Hessian Administrative Office in Hilders.

Each session begins at 6:00 PM. Attendees from any part of the Rhön can choose the date that fits their schedule. The researchers will present their preliminary results and open the floor for discussion. Their aim is to encourage an open exchange of ideas and listen to local perspectives. The team hopes to shape the region’s future alongside its residents. The events provide a chance for the community to engage directly with the research. All three sessions are free to attend and designed to include as many voices as possible.
