Kazakhstan races to modernize gas pipelines before winter 2026–2027

QazaqGaz JSC is preparing Kazakhstan’s gas pipeline network for the 2026–2027 autumn-winter period. The company is working to ensure the Central Asia–Center gas transport system is modernised and ready for the colder months. A significant portion of the planned work has already been completed. As of April 2023, 45% of scheduled preparation measures have been finished. Nationwide, about 40% of all winter readiness work is also done. In the SAC-5 and SAC-4 Loop pipelines, 67% of the planned repairs are complete, with 2,715 defects already fixed.

Under the capital repair programme, 461 pipeline defects are being addressed, and 103 have been resolved so far. The Central Asia–Center system requires 4,047 defects to be eliminated in the SAC-5 and SAC-4 Loop main pipelines. Intergas Central Asia JSC, a QazaqGaz subsidiary, is leading these efforts to guarantee uninterrupted gas transit.

Abzal Kisimetov, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Production at QazaqGaz, recently inspected preparations in the Atyrau and West Kazakhstan regions. QazaqGaz Aimaq’s West Kazakhstan production branch is also involved, maintaining over 10,500 kilometres of gas distribution networks. All repair and modernisation work is expected to finish by the end of August 2023. The preparations aim to secure Kazakhstan’s gas pipeline network before winter. The completion of modernisation and repair work will help ensure reliable gas transit. The final deadline for all tasks is set for the end of August 2023.
