Green Mark Initiative Transforms Waste into Art in Remote Russian Towns

The Green Mark initiative will launch this summer in Omsukchan and Evensk. It builds on the success of Polymetal’s Trash Hunt project, which began three years ago. The new programme encourages creative reuse of discarded materials to improve local spaces. Anastasia Shimanskaya, the project’s curator, leads communications at Polymetal’s Magadan branch. Her initiative invites participants to craft functional art, upgrade streets, or produce videos that inspire change.

In Evensk, children have already turned an old fishing boat into an art piece and community hub. The Green Badge programme there also promotes clean-up drives and landscaping efforts.

This year, volunteers from the Omsukchan Youth Club Portal will join for the first time. Their plans include refurbishing old school furniture and starting other eco-friendly projects. The Green Mark initiative aims to beautify public areas through art and sustainable practices. It expands on past efforts by involving more volunteers and communities. The focus remains on turning waste into valuable, functional creations.
