Four Eastern German States Unite to Boost Firefighting Cooperation

The interior ministers of four eastern German states have signed a new agreement to strengthen cooperation on firefighting resources. Thuringia, Saxony, Brandenburg, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will now work together more closely. The deal aims to improve efficiency and reduce costs for emergency services. Under the agreement, the states will jointly procure fire engines, operational equipment, and other civil protection services. They will also coordinate tendering and manage construction and planning projects together. Saxony is the newest partner, while the other three states had already collaborated before.

Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) highlighted the benefits of the cooperation. He stated that it would support fire departments, disaster response teams, and the public. Pooling expertise and increasing procurement volumes are key goals of the initiative. The partnership is set to enhance emergency response capabilities across the region. Shared resources and joint planning are expected to lead to cost savings. The agreement covers vehicles, equipment, and services essential for civil protection.
