Agentic AI Could Revolutionize Embedded Finance—Here's How
The Euro Banking Association (EBA) has released a new report titled Supercharging embedded finance with agentic AI. It explores how agentic AI can improve embedded finance by enhancing customer experience, automating operations, and dynamically managing risk. The study also highlights the challenges and opportunities tied to its adoption. The report identifies over 40 potential use cases for agentic AI in embedded finance. Five were shortlisted for their high value, including an agentic cashflow optimiser, a procurement optimiser, a KYC/KYB onboarding guide, a payment reconciliation assistant, and a product configuration manager.
To deploy agentic AI safely, the EBA outlines five critical success factors. These are real-time API access, end-to-end auditability, clear accountability, 'human in command' checkpoints, and explicitly bounded decision rights. The technology can be embedded as agentic interfaces, orchestration tools, or domain expertise within finance stacks.
The report also stresses the need for market-wide collaboration. Three key priorities are interoperable data and API standards, cross-industry digital identity frameworks, and sector-wide ethical and safety principles in line with the EU AI Act. Without these, the risks of modernisation and new vulnerabilities may outweigh the benefits. Following the proposed roadmap could help financial institutions implement agentic AI securely. The goal is to scale embedded finance while addressing technical, ethical, and regulatory challenges. The EBA’s findings provide a structured approach for banks and fintechs to adopt these advancements.
