Nizhny Novgorod cracks down on unsafe e-scooter riding with fines

Traffic police and the transport authority in Nizhny Novgorod carried out a joint operation to improve road safety for e-scooter riders. The initiative aimed to address common violations and promote responsible use of electric scooters in the city. During the operation, officers issued six administrative citations. The most frequent offences included failing to dismount at pedestrian crossings, carrying passengers on single-rider e-scooters, and riding outside designated bike lanes.

Representatives from the Transport Safety and Order Directorate (TsODD) also took part. They educated riders on safe practices and handed out over 100 leaflets and brochures with guidance on proper e-scooter use. Those found breaking the rules will receive fines of 800 rubles. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to enforce traffic regulations and reduce risks for both riders and pedestrians. Authorities continue to monitor compliance closely.
