Central Railway upgrades 12 local trains to AC from June 29, 2026
Central Railway (CR) will convert 12 non-air-conditioned local train services into air-conditioned ones on its Main Line. The change takes effect from Monday, June 29, 2026. This move aims to improve commuter comfort without altering the overall suburban timetable. The newly converted services will run as AC locals from Monday to Saturday. They include six Up and six Down trains, connecting major stations such as CSMT, Thane, Kalyan, Kurla, Ghatkopar and Titwala. On Sundays and public holidays, these trains will revert to non-AC rakes to maintain flexibility.
With this update, Central Railway will operate 120 AC suburban services on weekdays. The Main Line will see its AC services rise from 80 to 92, while the Harbour Line remains at 28. The total number of weekday suburban services stays fixed at 1,820. The additional AC services are set to reduce crowding and encourage more commuters to choose air-conditioned travel. The adjustment keeps the existing frequency of suburban services intact. Central Railway’s decision prioritises passenger comfort alongside operational stability.
