Wiesbaden's new temporary bike lane eases construction detours near Henkell cellars
A temporary bike lane has been set up along Biebricher Allee near the Henkell sparkling wine cellars. The lane helps cyclists detour around a construction pit while utility work is carried out. The current setup is approved until 19 June, with a possible extension if construction continues. The original bike path closed in February due to utility work by ESWE Versorgung. The new temporary lane, marked in yellow, runs parallel to the road. It narrows the space for cars by 1.5 metres but meets the same safety standards as permanent bike lanes.
Bollards have been placed at the start of the protected section to improve visibility. Dashed lines on parts of the lane allow vehicles to cross it if cyclists are not at risk. Drivers are also permitted to briefly enter the lane to overtake when safe to do so.
So far, no dangerous situations have been reported. The provisional route remains in place while construction progresses. The temporary bike lane is currently approved until mid-June. Its continuation depends on the construction timeline. The arrangement ensures cyclists have a safe detour while work on the original path is completed.
