Green Alternative Route's Southern Section 1 nears completion with major upgrades
Construction on Southern Section 1 of the Green Alternative Route (AGR) is moving forward rapidly. The project will create a dedicated bus corridor with priority signals, frequent services, fewer stops, and key transfer points. It aims to improve public transport efficiency in the area. Extensive preparations have already taken place. Crews have installed sewers, connected utilities and lighting, built retaining walls, and added curbs and gutters for bus stops. Drainage work, final surfacing, noise barriers, shoulder improvements, and tree plantings are also part of the plan.
From 2 July to 12 August 2025, Nordsteimker Straße (K5) will close completely. Traffic will be diverted via L 290 and Dieselstraße during this period. The AGR will connect to K5/Nordsteimker Straße, and an amphibian tunnel will be built beneath it.
The intersection of K5, K36, and Steinbeker Straße will be redesigned. It will feature new traffic lights to manage flow. Once finished, the temporary road will become a permanent path for pedestrians and cyclists. Southern Section 1 is set to open by summer or autumn 2027. The new route will enhance bus travel and reduce congestion. Residents and commuters will benefit from faster, more reliable services.
