Freiburg: B31 restricted at night due to work on Dietenbach

Freiburg's B31 to face brief overnight closures for power line upgrades

Overnight work will disrupt traffic on Freiburg’s B31 in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The construction is part of a larger project to relocate high-voltage power lines for the new Dietenbach neighbourhood. Drivers can expect temporary closures but minimal delays. The work will take place between 2:00 and 4:00 AM from Monday, June 22, to Tuesday, June 23, 2026. It focuses on a roughly 200-metre section north of the Hermann-Zens Bridge, where Tel-Aviv-Yafo-Allee crosses the B31. Crews will install protective netting above the highway as part of the power line adjustments.

Only the B31 itself will be affected. All on- and off-ramps, along with the Hermann-Zens Bridge, will stay open during the operation. Traffic will still flow through the construction zone, controlled by temporary lights with wait times capped at five minutes.

The project ties into the development of the Dietenbach area. It consolidates existing high-voltage lines into a single route along the eastern side of Tel-Aviv-Yafo-Allee and the B31. Construction on the relocated power line began in early March. The roadway will close briefly during the work, but disruptions should remain short. The adjustments aim to support the new neighbourhood’s infrastructure. Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume by 4:00 AM on June 23.
