Belarusian Railway passengers endure sweltering heat and broken amenities
Passengers on Belarusian Railway trains are reporting severe discomfort due to poor conditions. Many have taken to social media to describe sweltering heat, broken air conditioning, and non-functional Wi-Fi on multiple routes. On the Minsk–Brest line, travellers found themselves in old carriages with a persistent stench and suffocating temperatures. One passenger, who paid extra for a lower berth to Moscow, described the carriage as feeling like a sauna. Another booked business class expecting modern comforts, only to board a Soviet-era train with no working air conditioning or internet.
A further complaint came from a passenger who paid 25 rubles for a business class ticket, only to face the same issues. The railway’s outdated equipment cannot cope with high temperatures, causing widespread failures. Officials have admitted there is no budget to replace the ageing carriages.
Other users confirmed that these problems are not isolated. Similar conditions have been reported across different Belarusian Railway services. The railway’s inability to maintain or upgrade its fleet leaves passengers enduring extreme heat and unreliable services. Without funding for new carriages, the situation is unlikely to improve soon. Travellers continue to voice frustration over the lack of basic amenities on their journeys.
