Getnet Launches AI-Powered Payments for Businesses Globally
Getnet, Santander’s global merchant payments platform, has introduced new AI-powered features for businesses. These allow merchants to accept payments initiated by AI agents, addressing the rise of AI assistants that handle transactions for users. The solution removes the need for complex integrations. It includes identification and authentication tools to improve security for these transactions.
Getnet and Mastercard have already tested the system in Mexico and Latin America. They used Mastercard Agent Pay alongside an AI agent from Mexican startup Neivor. Mastercard’s platform ensures payments initiated by agents are secure, authenticated, and verified.
The new infrastructure is built on open standards, making it interoperable and protocol-agnostic. It connects directly to Getnet’s global payments network. Initially, the service is available to businesses with their own AI agents, but plans exist to extend it to smaller companies and SMEs without dedicated AI systems.
Getnet is collaborating with major industry players to promote open standards for Agentic Commerce. This ensures compatibility with Mastercard Agent Pay and future integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce. The launch supports a more open and secure model for commerce, embedding AI throughout the payment process. Merchants can now automatically accept and process payments from AI agents, whether their own or those operating via conversational platforms. The solution aims to streamline transactions while maintaining high security standards.
