Sarens to Build $56M Logistics Hub Near China-Kazakhstan Border
Sarens is set to invest up to $56 million in a new logistics and commercial hub near Kazakhstan’s border with China. The project aims to boost freight handling capacity between the two regions. Growing trade flows between China and Europe are driving the initiative forward. The company has operated in Kazakhstan since 2003. Over the years, it has observed major improvements in the country’s transport infrastructure. Last year alone, Sarens transported 165 wind turbine sets through the Khorgos border crossing.
The new hub will span 82 hectares. It will feature warehouses, office space, retail facilities, accommodation, truck services, and supporting infrastructure for freight operators. The site is designed to handle oversized cargo, including wind turbine blades and turbine components.
The first phase of the project, costing an estimated $10 million, is expected to start operations by the end of 2023. Most of the facilities will be fully operational by the end of 2027. In addition, Sarens is planning a new border crossing between China and Kazakhstan to ease congestion. Currently, truck queues on both sides can last for days during peak periods. The hub will help Sarens meet rising demand for freight services between China and Europe. It will also address current bottlenecks at the border. Once complete, the project will provide a major boost to the region’s logistics capabilities.
