Utah's $1.1B Green River Energy Center Now Powers the Grid with Solar and Storage
The $1.1 billion Green River Energy Center in Emery County, Utah, is now operational. It stands as the largest solar-plus-storage facility in PacifiCorp’s six-state service area. The project marks a significant step in Utah’s push to expand electricity production. The facility combines 400 MW of solar power with a 400 MW/1,600 MWh battery storage system. It uses 993,492 solar panels and 484 Tesla Megapacks to generate and store energy. Construction created hundreds of jobs, many filled by local contractors.
The project is part of Utah’s Operation Gigawatt, which aims to double the state’s energy output over the next decade. The plan focuses on advanced nuclear, geothermal, and renewable sources, supported by battery storage. Partners also invested in the community, donating $45,000 to the Ferron Fire Department and pledging $375,000 in scholarships for students pursuing energy careers. The Green River Energy Center is expected to generate over $55 million in property tax revenue for local schools and public services. Its completion supports Utah’s broader energy goals and delivers economic benefits to Emery County. The facility strengthens the region’s power grid with a major renewable energy source.
