Signify's rural lighting initiative brightens 400 villages and beyond

Signify, the global leader in lighting, has reaffirmed its commitment to safer and more sustainable rural communities through its CSR initiative, Signify Har Gaon Roshan. The programme focuses on innovative lighting solutions to improve safety and resilience in rural areas. Dr. Arun Kumar Saxena, Honourable Minister of State, recently praised the company’s efforts in community development and wildlife conflict mitigation. Since 2019, Signify Har Gaon Roshan has made a tangible difference in over 400 forest fringe villages across the Terai region. Over 9,000 LED streetlights have been installed in 400 villages in Uttar Pradesh alone, enhancing safety and community well-being.

At a recent event, Dr. Saxena commended Signify for its role in rural development and community safety. He also stressed the importance of collaborative action to address human-wildlife conflicts. To mark the initiative’s impact, a coffee table book was launched, showcasing its work in Dudhwa National Park.

Signify presented a Letter of Intent to expand the programme further. It plans to install 1,500 additional LED streetlights across 67 villages in the Katarniaghat landscape. The company, with sales of EUR 5.8 billion in 2025, operates in over 70 markets and holds top sustainability credentials, including a place in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and an EcoVadis Platinum rating. Signify Har Gaon Roshan continues to transform rural communities through lighting solutions that boost safety and resilience. The expansion into Katarniaghat will bring more villages under its reach. The initiative remains a key part of the company’s broader sustainability and community support efforts.
