Toyota recalls 12,000 SUVs in China over software glitch in dashboards

Toyota has announced a recall affecting thousands of vehicles in China. The move comes after a software glitch was identified in certain SUV models. The recall was officially declared by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. The recall covers over 9,000 Land Cruiser 250 (Prado) SUVs produced between 16 July 2024 and 27 September 2025. It also includes 2,945 imported Lexus GX500h SUVs assembled from 28 February 2024 to 26 December 2025.

The issue involves a software problem that may prevent some instrument panel data from displaying when the engine starts. To resolve this, Toyota will provide free software updates at authorised service centres. The update is designed to restore full functionality to the instrument cluster and remove any operational risks. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notifications about the recall. The free software update aims to ensure all instrument displays work correctly. This action should eliminate the identified risk and restore normal operation for all impacted SUVs.
