A14 North Extension Grows Again

Altmark's A14 motorway expansion opens new 6.8-km stretch for drivers

A major step forward for the Altmark region has arrived with the opening of a new stretch of the A14 motorway. The project includes a completed 6.8-kilometre section between Lüderitz and Stendal-South, now open to traffic. This development is part of a broader effort to improve transport links from Magdeburg to the Baltic Sea. The A14 Northern Extension continues to take shape. A symbolic ceremony recently marked the start of work on a new Elbe River bridge in Wittenberge. The federal government is funding this bridge with around €120 million, and it will stretch 1,109 metres, featuring a three-metre-wide path for pedestrians and cyclists on its eastern side.

Construction has also begun on another section of the A14, between Wittenberge and Karstädt, with an investment of around €316 million. The final 18 kilometres of the extension in Brandenburg are set to start soon. By the end of the year, a rest area with parking and toilet facilities will be ready on the Stendal section.

With the latest opening, drivers now have 36 continuous kilometres of motorway between Wolmirstedt and Stendal-South. The project aims to create a seamless connection, benefiting both local residents and the regional economy. The opening of the new A14 stretch brings immediate improvements for road users. The ongoing work on the Elbe River bridge and other sections will further enhance connectivity. Once complete, the motorway will provide a direct route from Magdeburg to the Baltic Sea.
