Major roadworks to disrupt city traffic starting June 22, 2026
Major roadworks will disrupt traffic in several areas starting from June 22, 2026. Multiple streets will undergo reconstruction, resurfacing, or utility upgrades, affecting both drivers and local businesses. Authorities have outlined detours and temporary access solutions to minimise disruptions. On Freiimfelder Straße, track renewal works will close northbound traffic toward Berliner Brücke from June 22 to July 3, 2026. Trucks will be diverted via Magdeburger Straße, Jahnstraße, and Berliner Straße during this period.
Volkmannstraße will see comprehensive resurfacing on its outbound lanes between Riebeckplatz and Paracelsusstraße. From June 24 to July 17, northbound traffic will share a single lane with southbound vehicles. Trucks will also be barred from entering Volkmannstraße from side streets to avoid collisions.
Full road reconstruction will begin on Zscherbener Straße between Schönebecker Straße and Harzgeroder Straße on June 22. Access to Am Gastronom facilities will remain open through a temporary entrance on Zerbster Straße. Meanwhile, Große Gosenstraße between Triftstraße and Advokatenweg will undergo full reconstruction from June 22 to June 26.
Utility works will also take place on Pestalozzistraße in four phases, running from June 22 to September 18. Additionally, district heating pipeline installation on Albert-Schweitzer-Straße between Rathenauplatz and Herweghstraße will last from June 23 to October 30. The works will improve infrastructure but require careful planning for commuters. Temporary diversions and lane reductions will be in place for weeks or months. Residents and businesses are advised to follow official updates for the latest changes.
