Planet Labs soars with record revenue and next-gen satellite launches

Planet Labs has announced strong financial results for its latest quarter. The company, known for its daily Earth-imagery and analytics, reported record revenue and a significant increase in its cash reserves. Its satellite operations remain among the largest in the industry. The firm achieved quarterly revenue of about $94 million, a 42% rise compared to the same period last year. Its backlog now exceeds $906 million, reflecting growing demand for its services. Customers access its data and AI-driven analytics through subscription models.

Planet Labs also deployed its next-generation Pelican satellites, which offer higher-resolution imaging. One of these satellites carries Sweden’s first sovereign reconnaissance payload. The company has raised its full-year revenue guidance to roughly $425–441 million.

By the end of the reporting period, its cash and short-term investments had grown by 223% year-over-year to about $731 million. The business continues to operate one of the world’s largest fleets of imaging satellites, competing with firms like BlackSky Technology and Satellogic in the geospatial intelligence sector. The company’s financial performance and satellite advancements highlight its expanding role in Earth observation. Its increased revenue guidance and growing cash reserves suggest continued growth in the geospatial intelligence market. The deployment of advanced satellites further strengthens its service offerings.
