Hamburg Extends U-Bahn Service for WM Knockout Match

Hamburg extends subway hours for Germany's late World Cup showdown in Boston

Hamburg is preparing for Germany’s first World Cup knockout match in Boston. Public transit operator Hochbahn will extend subway services until 3 a.m. to accommodate fans returning late. The match may run into extra time or penalties, keeping supporters out well past midnight. The extended services will cover the U1, U2, and U3 lines. These will run every 20 minutes after the match, with the U3 between Barmbek and Mundsburg operating every 10 minutes. The U4 line, however, will not have extended hours and will finish its regular schedule around 1 a.m.

Additional articulated buses will also be added to night route 613, increasing its frequency to every 15 minutes. Passengers can transfer from this route to bus line 25 at Winterhuder Marktplatz for connections to western Hamburg.

Fans in the city can watch the game at public viewing events. Locations include Spielbudenplatz near the Reeperbahn and Landhaus Walter in Stadtpark. The changes aim to help fans travel safely after the late match. Extended subway times and more frequent buses will provide extra options for those returning home. Public viewing areas will also give supporters places to gather and watch the game together.
