Ethereum's stablecoin dominance nears ETH's market cap in 2026
Ethereum continues to play a central role in dollar-denominated transactions and holdings. As of June 17, 2026, the network hosts a substantial stablecoin supply, nearly matching the value of its native token, ETH, which trades at $1,751.49 with a market cap of $211.95 billion. The total value of USD-pegged stablecoins on Ethereum has reached $156.55 billion. This figure represents roughly 74% of ETH’s market capitalisation, highlighting the network’s dominance as a settlement layer for dollar liquidity.
Tether (USDT) forms a significant portion of this stablecoin pool, with $80.31 billion in circulation on Ethereum. Over the past 30 days, its supply on the network has slightly decreased by 3.14%, dropping from $82.96 billion to $80.35 billion. Globally, USDT on Ethereum accounts for 43.05% of all USDT in circulation.
Beyond passive holdings, Ethereum’s decentralised finance (DeFi) sector remains active. The total value locked (TVL) in DeFi protocols stands at $39.61 billion, which is about 18.7% of ETH’s market cap. This metric captures assets actively used in protocols, separate from the broader stablecoin supply. Ethereum supports a vast amount of dollar activity, both in stablecoin reserves and active DeFi usage. The network’s stablecoin supply alone is nearly three-quarters the size of ETH’s market value. Its role in global liquidity and protocol engagement remains strong and measurable.
