A14 motorway reopens after weekend demolition of unsafe overpass
The A14 motorway has fully reopened after a weekend shutdown for demolition work. Traffic is now moving freely again between the Halle/Peißen interchange and Schkeuditz Cross. The closure was needed to remove the Gröbers junction overpass, which had been deemed unsafe. Authorities first identified cracks in the bridge’s support pillars last year. This led to the permanent closure of the Gröbers junction overpass due to safety concerns. Over the weekend, the entire structure was demolished to prevent further risks.
The A14 was shut in both directions from Friday evening until early Monday morning. Drivers faced detours, but the work was completed on schedule. No major delays were reported as traffic returned to normal.
The removal of the damaged overpass ensures safer travel on this key route. Motorists can now use the A14 without restrictions between Halle/Peißen and Schkeuditz. Further inspections will check if additional repairs are needed elsewhere on the motorway.
