Traffic on A38 between Merseburg and Leipzig restricted - A38 motorway faces month-long delays for major resurfacing work

Drivers on the A38 motorway will face repeated disruptions over the next month. Temporary closures and speed restrictions begin today between Merseburg-South and Leipzig-Southwest. The measures are part of early preparations for a major resurfacing project.

The restrictions will remain in place until around March 6, 2026. Crews are preparing the carriageway for a full asphalt resurfacing project. This phase of work covers the stretch between Merseburg-Süd and Leipzig-Südwest.

No details have been released about future roadworks on other sections of the A38. The entire resurfacing project is expected to take well over a month to complete.

Motorists should plan for delays and possible detours during the preparatory phase. The upcoming resurfacing aims to improve road conditions along this busy route. Officials have not yet announced further closures beyond the current schedule.
