Alicante-Elche Airport braces for record Easter travel rush with 4,200 flights

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is preparing for a busy Easter period, with thousands of passengers expected to pass through its gates. Over 4,200 flights have been scheduled between March 27 and April 6, marking a 6% rise compared to the same dates last year.

The airport, one of the Valencian Community's busiest transport hubs, will see daily traffic peak at around 350 flights. On the busiest days, that number could climb to over 430 departures and arrivals. Authorities and operators are working to keep operations running smoothly and reduce delays during the travel rush.

Low-cost airlines remain a major force behind passenger growth, especially on routes linking Alicante with the UK, Germany, and other European destinations. The Easter surge is often used as a predictor for the summer season, and airlines have already announced plans for further expansion in the coming months. Despite the positive outlook, potential airport strikes across Spain—including Alicante—could still cause disruptions. If walkouts go ahead, travellers may face delays during the peak travel period.

The increase in flights signals strong demand for travel to the Costa Blanca, offering a promising start to the tourism season. Airlines and airport staff will focus on handling the higher passenger volumes while keeping delays to a minimum.
