Almaty's Tauelsizdik Prospect to shut for urgent repairs in February

A key stretch of Tauelsizdik Prospect in Almaty will close for emergency repairs between February 10 and February 20, 2026. The affected section runs from Sh. Kaldyakov Street to I. Panfilov Street, disrupting a major route for commuters and businesses in the city centre.

The closure will block one-way traffic along the designated part of Tauelsizdik Prospect. Drivers heading toward the area can still reach their destination by turning right onto Sh. Kaldyakov Street, following a marked detour. Authorities estimate the work will take between 36 and 48 hours to complete.

This section of Tauelsizdik Prospect serves as a vital link between central business districts. While it holds no historical importance, its role in daily traffic flow makes it a critical route for both commercial transport and residents travelling across Almaty.

Repairs will wrap up no later than February 20, 2026, provided no delays occur. Until then, motorists should plan for longer journeys or use alternative routes. The city has not announced further restrictions beyond the temporary closure.
