Youth of Amur District Invited to Become Digital Cartographers

Amur District youth map their city for prizes and progress

A new quest in Amur District is inviting young people to help improve Yandex Maps while earning prizes. Organised by the Public Youth Chamber under the District Council of Deputies, the initiative encourages participants to map out local landmarks, businesses, and hidden spots across Amursk. The project kicks off on June 19 in Amursk, the administrative heart of the district. Young residents will take on the role of cartographers, pinpointing everything from monuments and cafés to lesser-known attractions. Their updates will make the digital map more accurate and easier to use for both locals and visitors.

Yekaterina Smetanina, head specialist of the district’s Youth Policy, Physical Culture, and Sports Development Department, explained that the quest aims to involve young people in shaping their city. By using familiar digital tools, participants can directly contribute to making Amursk more modern and accessible. The most active contributors will receive rewards. Beyond prizes, the project offers a chance for young residents to play a hands-on role in improving their hometown’s infrastructure.

The updated Yandex Maps will provide clearer navigation for anyone exploring Amursk. The quest also gives young people a practical way to influence the city’s development. Organisers hope the initiative will foster a stronger connection between youth and their urban environment.
