Apple’s next major software updates will bring significant changes to device compatibility. iOS 27 and macOS 26 Tahoe will drop support for several older models when they launch later this year. The updates were announced at WWDC 2026, with a public release planned for September. iOS 27 will arrive in September after months of beta testing. The update will only work on iPhones 12 or newer, cutting off support for the iPhone 11 series and the second-generation iPhone SE. These older devices will still receive security patches for iOS 26 but won’t get the latest features.
The new software introduces a revamped Siri experience. Users will access a standalone app for text or voice commands, with a history of past conversations. Siri will also appear directly within the Dynamic Island for quicker interactions. macOS 26 Tahoe marks the end of major updates for Intel-based Macs. While these machines will still get security fixes for three more years, no new features will be added. The update also drops support for several 2019 and 2020 models, including the 16-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Pro, 2020 iMac, and 2019 Mac Pro.
The changes mean many users will need to upgrade their devices to stay current. iOS 27 will leave behind older iPhones, while macOS 26 Tahoe shifts focus entirely to Apple Silicon. Security updates will continue for unsupported models, but without access to future features.
