Arctic village finally gets high-speed internet via satellite HotSpot

A remote Arctic village has gained high-speed internet for the first time. RTComm, a federal satellite operator, launched a HotSpot in Kazachye, Sakha Republic, bringing reliable connectivity to over a thousand residents. The new service is already changing daily life in this isolated community beyond the Arctic Circle. Kazachye sits on the banks of the Yana River, deep within the Kazachinsky National Legacy. Its permafrost terrain has long made traditional internet infrastructure difficult to install. Until now, residents faced slow, unreliable connections—or none at all.

The HotSpot solves this by providing satellite-based Wi-Fi access. Users simply register, buy a data package, and connect with any Wi-Fi-enabled device. Services like government portals, news updates, and video calls are now within reach. Local resident Raisa Dmitrieva called the HotSpot a game-changer, noting faster speeds and lower costs. Mikhail Mutterperger, Commercial Director of RTComm.RU JSC, highlighted its broader impact: enabling remote work, education, and communication. The company also plans to expand coverage, bringing similar connectivity to more Arctic communities.

The HotSpot has transformed internet access in Kazachye, offering essential online services to an isolated region. RTComm’s ongoing network development aims to extend these benefits further across the Arctic. For now, residents can browse, call, and work with far greater ease than before.
