Astana's eco-forum pushes gas sector toward greener future by 2033
Astana recently hosted an ecological forum to mark World Environment Day. The event, organised by Intergas Central Asia JSC, brought together experts to discuss sustainability in the gas sector. Company leaders highlighted their commitment to cutting emissions and improving green practices across operations. Intergas Central Asia JSC has made environmental responsibility a core part of its production strategy. Through its Low-Carbon Development Program, the company aims to steadily reduce its carbon footprint by 2033. This year’s forum centred on integrating sustainable methods into gas transportation while minimising ecological harm.
The company has significantly increased its investment in green initiatives. Environmental protection spending nearly doubled in 2025, while capital funding for ecological projects rose by 50% compared to the previous period. A unified waste management system now operates across all levels, from local branches to the head office. Beyond financial efforts, Intergas Central Asia JSC launched public campaigns like 'Plastic-Free Day', 'Earth Hour', and community clean-ups. Over 8,000 tree saplings were planted as part of a broader reforestation drive. At the forum’s close, specialists who advanced environmental protection received awards from partner organisations. Akbar Tulgenov, First Deputy Chairman of QazaqGaz NC JSC, stressed the need for prioritising ecological concerns in the company’s future work. His remarks reinforced the forum’s focus on long-term sustainability in the energy sector.
The forum underscored Intergas Central Asia JSC’s growing focus on environmental action. With higher spending, expanded waste systems, and public green projects, the company is pushing toward its 2033 emissions targets. Recognising key contributors at the event also highlighted the role of expertise in driving these changes forward.
