Astana's youth unite to clean Nur-Esil Canal in spring campaign

A large-scale environmental campaign has taken place along the Nur-Esil Canal in Astana. Organised by the youth-led Zhasyl El project, the event brought together over 50 volunteers to clean up the Nura River’s shores. The initiative marks the start of spring community cleanups under the Taza Qazaqstan programme. The cleanup was part of the 22nd work season for Zhasyl El teams in the capital. More than 5,200 young people aged 14 to 35 will take part in projects across Astana this year. Their tasks will include construction work, maintaining the city’s green belt, and improving parks, schools, and social facilities.

Asylbek Abdurashitov, deputy head of Zhasyl El, explained that the campaign aimed to promote shared responsibility for the environment. Volunteers removed litter and carried out sanitation work along the canal banks. The event also served as a launch for wider spring cleaning efforts in the city.

The campaign highlights the ongoing work of Zhasyl El in Astana. With thousands of young participants involved, the project will continue landscaping and maintenance projects throughout the capital. This year’s efforts build on two decades of environmental and community initiatives.
