Astana tackles overcrowded buses with more frequent services and new routes
Residents in Astana have raised concerns about overcrowded buses during rush hours. In response, city authorities are now taking steps to improve public transport and ease congestion on busy routes. Deputy Mayor Yersin Otebayev has announced plans to tackle the issue of packed buses. One key measure involves adjusting schedules so that buses run every one to five minutes during peak times. After rush hour, the interval will return to 10 minutes to maintain efficiency.
The city has already bought around 700 new buses to modernise its fleet. By the end of the year, an additional 300 buses will be added to further boost capacity. Officials are also reviewing and fine-tuning transport timetables to better match passenger demand.
To improve late-night travel, authorities are considering launching night bus services. These changes aim to provide residents with more reliable and comfortable journeys across the city. The new measures include more frequent services, extra buses, and potential night routes. These adjustments are designed to reduce overcrowding and enhance public transport for Astana’s commuters. The city expects the changes to take full effect by the end of the year.
